Sal Barbier has been appointed Creative Director of the newly launched "SLB Line" at ETNIES. Sal's back!
I am teaming up again with Etnies as creative director of the newly launched "SLB Line."
They have been friends since the early 90s, when Sal skated in Etnies' Red Rap High in Plan B's video "Questionable," and in 1990 he released his own signature model, the "Sal 23." He is not only a talented skater, but also a talented designer, making him the perfect choice for the role of creative director for Etnies.
"I've always created designs driven by necessity. I have a different perspective from current market trends, and I've always wanted to create the ideal 'skate shoes,' but to do that I needed a hardcore company. With Etnies, I want to create something special for skateboarders that will once again attract attention from around the world.
"I have a long history with Etnies, so this project just made sense to me. It was very important to me that the company be run by a skateboarder, so I couldn't have asked for a better partner than Etnies," said Sal Barbier.
To celebrate the new partnership between Etnies and Sal, the iconic SAL23 is being reissued for HOLIDAY 2024. Sal is currently working on the "SLB by Etnies" collection, which is scheduled to launch in Spring 2026.
"Sal's return to Etnies is not just a return; it marks a full circle. His passion for skating and design, and his aesthetic that embodies the essence of skateboarding, are woven into the very fabric of our skateboarding culture. When Sal designed the original Etnies SAL23, he remembered that his own shoes had holes in them, so he set out to design a shoe that would fit, stand up to grip tape, and look great.
Sal builds the Etnies SLB line with a style/function focus from a skater's perspective.
