SKF is an abbreviation for Svenska Kullagerfabriken, which literally translates to "Swedish Ball Bearing Factory." Founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1907, the company has manufactured bearings for a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, and agriculture. The bottom line is that if a bearing is used in an airplane, it will certainly perform well in a skateboard.
SKF has been in the skateboarding market for decades, but made a major impact on the global skateboarding scene in 2022 by forming a powerful skate team, featuring top skaters such as Ishod Wair, Louie Lopez, Oskar Rozenberg, Alexis Sablone, Tiago Lemos, Rayssa Leal, and Kader Sylla.
SKF bearing specifications
High quality industrial steel Glass fibre reinforced polyamide ball cage Specially designed low friction grease Low friction protective shield Made in Italy For entry level bearings, SKF Standard boasts the highest quality.
The balance of speed and smoothness is exquisite, providing excellent performance. SKF bearing characteristics: The wheel does not spin for very long, but when a person is riding, it continues to roll longer than many other bearings.
- It is characterized by a very high amount of grease. When we removed the shield, we found that the inside was filled with lubricant. - SKF's proprietary grease is designed to maintain its lubricating effect throughout the bearing's lifespan. Therefore, although there is no need to periodically oil the bearing, it is recommended that you use it without removing the shield.
The SKF bearings performed best after a break-in period of about two weeks. At first, there was a muffled "breaking" sound due to the internal grease, but this gradually settled in and became a more normal sound.
We were also able to confirm the effect of temperature. In warm environments, the grease rotated more smoothly, but in cold environments, the grease became more viscous, causing a slight decrease in speed. However, the difference was not so great that it affected the glide, and was only noticeable.
After six months of use, we have not seen any damage or loss of speed, proving that these bearings are extremely reliable and long-lasting.
